Run Your Own Race

I was jogging one day and I noticed a person in front of me, about 1/4 of mile. I could tell he was running a little slower than me and I thought, good, I shall try to catch him. I had about a mile to go my path before I needed to turn off. So I started running faster and faster. Every block, I was gaining on him just a little bit.

After just a few minutes I was only about 100 yards behind him, so I really picked up the pace and push myself. You would have thought I was running in the last leg of London Olympic competition. I was determined to catch him. Finally, I did it! I caught and passed him by. On the inside I felt so good.

"I beat him" of course, he didn't even know we were racing. After I passed him, I realized I had been so focused on competing against him that I had missed my turn. I had gone nearly six blocks past it. I had to turn around and go all back.

Isn't that what happens in life when we focus on competing with co-workers, neighbors, friends, family, trying to outdo them or trying to prove that we are more successful or more important? We spend our time and energy running after them and we miss out on our own paths to our God given destinies. The problem with unhealthy competition is that its a never ending cycle. There will always be somebody ahead of you, someone with better job, nicer car, more money in the bank, more education, better behaved children, etc.

But realize that "You can be the best that you can be, you are not competing with no one." Some people are insecure because they pay too much attention to what others are doing, where others are going, wearing driving. Take what God has given you, the height, weight personality. Dress well wear it proudly! You'll be blessed by it. Stay focused and live a healthy life. There's no competition in DESTINY, run your own RACE and wish others WELL!!!

Be Good to Yourself!

Trust yourself - you know what you want and need.

Put yourself first - you can't be anything for anybody else unless you take care of yourself.

Let your feelings be known - they are important.

Express your opinions - it's good to hear yourself talk.

Value your thinking - you do it well.

Take the time and space you need - even if other people are wanting something from you.

When you need something - don't talk yourself out of it. Even if you can't have it, it's ok to need.

When you are scared - let someone know. Isolating yourself when you're scared makes it worse.

When you feel like running away - let yourself feel the scare. Think about what you fear will happen and decide what you need to do.

When you're angry - let yourself feel the anger.

Decide what you want to do - just feel it, express it, or take some action.

When you're sad - think about what would be comforting.

When you're hurt - tell the person who hurt you. Keeping it inside makes it grow.

When you have work to do and you don't want to do it - decide what really needs to be done and what can wait.

When you want something from someone else - ask. You'll be okay if they say no. Asking is being true to yourself.

When you need help - ask. Trust people to say no if they don't want to give.

When people turn you down - It usually has to do with them, and not with you. Ask someone else for what you need.

When you feel alone - know there are people who want to be with you. Fantasize what it would be like to be with each of them. Decide if you want to make that happen.

When you feel anxious - let yourself know that in your head.

When you want to say something loving to someone - go ahead. Expressing your feeling is not a commitment.

When someone yells at you - physically support yourself. By relaxing into your chair or putting your feet firmly on the floor. Remember to breathe. Think about the message they are trying to get across to you.

When you're harassing yourself - stop. You do it when you need something. Figure out what you need and get it.

When everything seems wrong and you are overwhelmed and need some comforting - ask for it. Afterwards, you can think about what you need to do.

When you want to talk to someone new and are scared - breathe. Don't start rehearsing, just plunge in. If it doesn't go well, you can stop.

If you're doing something you don't like to do (such as smoking or overeating) - stop. Think about what you really want.

If you're stuck and can't think clearly - talk out loud to someone.

When you can't think straight - stop thinking. Feel.

When you're in need of love - reach out. There are people who love you.

When you're confused - it's usually because you think you should. Do one thing and you want to do another. Dialogue with yourself or present both sides to a friend.

When you feel harried - slow down. Deliberately slow your breathing, your speech, and your movements.

When you have tears - cry. When you feel like crying and it's not a safe place to cry. Acknowledge your pain and promise yourself a good cry later. Keep your promise.

When everything seems gray - look for color.

If one of these rules seems wrong for you - talk about it with someone. Then, rewrite it so it fits you. Remember, Be Good To Yourself!

Pembinaan Karekter

Self Confident

The business executive was deep in debt and could see no way out. Creditors were closing in on him. Suppliers were demanding payment. He sat on the park bench, head in hands, wondering if anything could save his company from bankruptcy.

Suddenly an old man appeared before him.

"I can see that something is troubling you." he said.

After listening to the executives woes, the old man said, "I believe I can help you."

He asked the man his name, wrote out a check, and pushed it into his hand saying,

"Take this money. Meet me here exactly one year from today, and you can pay me back at that time." said the old man.

Then he turned and disappeared as quickly as he had come.

The business executive saw in his hand a check for $500,000, signed by John D. Rockefeller, then one of the richest men in the world!

I can erase my money worries in an instant! He realized.

But instead, the executive decided to put the uncashed check in his safe. Just knowing it was there might give him the strength to work out a way to save his business, he thought.

With renewed optimism, he negotiated better deals and extended terms of payment. He closed several big sales. Within a few months, he was out of debt and making money once again.

Exactly one year later, he returned to the park with the uncashed check.

At the agreed-upon time, the old man appeared. But just as the executive was about to hand back the check and share his success story, a nurse came running up and grabbed the old man.

"I'm so glad I caught him!" she cried.

"I hope he hasnt been bothering you. He is always escaping from the rest home and telling people hes John D. Rockefeller."

And she led the old man away by the arm.

The astonished executive just stood there, stunned. All year long he had been wheeling and dealing, buying and selling, convinced he had half a million dollars behind him.

Suddenly, he realized that it wasnt the money, real or imagined, that had turned his life around. It was his new-found self-confidence that gave him the power to achieve anything he went after.

Sejahtera Bahagia Kaya!

Pagi itu dalam keadaan sepontan, Alias bagi tahu aku bahawa untuk hidup aman, kita perlu amal tiga perkara ini dalam hidup;

1) Kita mesti sentiasa ingat Tuhan

Sememangnya diri kita amat berharga. After all, kita ni Allah’s greatest creation.

“I follow my heart!”

Bagi aku, untuk merealisasi slogan ini mudah sahaja. Ianya perlu bermula dengan;

1) Menyatakan pada diri sendiri bahawa aku mahu jadi ‘the real me’.

Moga kita semua dirahmati Tuhan!

A Mousetrap

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package... "What food might this contain?" The mouse wondered ... he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.

Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning. "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, "Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it."

The mouse turned to the goat and told him, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The goat sympathized, but said, "I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it."

The mouse turned to the cow and said, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The cow said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose. But wish you well; be assured you are in my prayers"

So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap alone.

That very night a sound was heard throughout the house, like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey. The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer's wife.

The farmer rushed her to the hospital and she returned home with a fever. Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient. But his wife's sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the goat. The farmer's wife did not get well; she died.

So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them. The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness.

Lesson Learned?

So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn't concern you, Remember that when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk. We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another because directly or indirectly we might have to suffer!!!

Happy Chinese New Year!

The Value of Time

Imagine there is a bank that credits your account each morning with $86,400. It carries over no balance from day to day. Every evening deletes whatever part of the balance you failed to use during the day.

What would you do? Draw out every cent, of course! Each of us has such a bank. Its name is TIME. Every morning, it credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night it writes off, as lost, whatever of this you have failed to invest to good purpose.

It carries over no balance. It allows no overdraft. Each day it opens a new account for you. Each night it burns the remains of the day. If you fail to use the day's deposits, the loss is yours. There is no going back. There is no drawing against the "tomorrow".

You must live in the present on today's deposits. Invest it so as to get from it the utmost in health, happiness and success!

The clock is running. Make the most of today.

To realize the value of ONE YEAR, ask a student who failed a grade.
To realize the value of ONE MONTH, ask a mother who gave birth to a pre-mature baby.
To realize the value of ONE WEEK, ask the editor of a weekly newspaper.
To realize the value of ONE DAY, ask a daily wage laborer with kids to feed.
To realize the value of ONE HOUR, ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.
To realize the value of ONE MINUTE, ask a person who missed the train.
To realize the value of ONE SECOND, ask a person who just avoided an accident.
To realize the value of ONE MILLI-SECOND, ask the person who won a silver medal in the Olympics.

Treasure every moment that you have! And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time. And remember that time waits for no one.

Burning Desire

A young man asked Socrates the secret to success. Socrates told the young man to meet him near the river the next morning. They met. Socrates asked the young man to walk with him towards the river. When the water got up to their neck, Socrates took the young man by surprise and ducked him into the water.

The boy struggled to get out but Socrates was strong and kept him there until the boy started turning blue. Socrates pulled his head out of the water and the first thing the young man did was to gasp and take a deep breath of air.

Socrates asked, 'What did you want the most when you were there?" The boy replied, "Air." Socrates said, "That is the secret to success. When you want success as badly as you wanted the air, then you will get it."

There is no other secret.

Moral of the Story

A burning desire is the starting point of all accomplishment. Just like a small fire cannot give much heat, a weak desire cannot produce great results. The motivation to succeed comes from the burning desire to achieve a purpose.
